History: - The Modern Indian Language, Assamese subject at Beltola College was first permitted by the executive council of Gauhati University. From the 1983 to 2009 the subject has been taught both in HS and Degree level. From 2009 the Assamese subject has been taught only under graduate students. Prof. Dilip Kumar Sarma was a first teacher of the department. Assamese is an also Elective Language subject at Degree level. Which was permitted by the G.U. Prof. Dilip Kumar Sarma was first Head of the Department.
